SFVA Youth Scholarship Program

The SFVA Scholarship Program promotes positive youth development by recognizing and rewarding leadership and scholarship attributes developed through meaningful competition. Awarded scholarships are held for the recipient and sent directly to the recipient's educational institution to support continued learning, including but not limited to 4-year degree programs, community colleges, trade and technical schools or classes, and certification testing.

Funds can be requested by filling out the form on our scholarship page and are held until a student is 24. For additional questions, please feel free to contact us at scholarship@statefairva.org.

Applications Now Closed

Top-scoring applicants in the General Applied and Senior Livestock Scholarship categories will be invited for a Webex interview as the final piece of the application process.

Please note, the application process will continue to be a blind scoring/application until the interview in which a fraction of our scholarship committee will interview top applicants as part of a 10-point component to their final score. Following application scoring, top applicants in the General and Senior Livestock categories will be contacted by State Fair staff to schedule their interview.

2025 Applied Scholarships

Twelve General Scholarships: *REQUIRES GENERAL SFVA APPLICATION

Five $2,000 General Youth Development Scholarships

Qualifier: Applicant must have participated in the 2025 State Fair of Virginia competitions.

Three $1,000 General Youth Development Scholarships (new for 2024)

Qualifier: Applicant must have participated in the 2025 State Fair of Virginia competitions.

One $1,000 Gatewood Holland Stoneman Endowed Youth Development Scholarship

Qualifier: Applicant must have participated in the 2025 State Fair of Virginia competitions.

One $1,000 Farm Credit Endowed Youth Development Scholarship

Qualifier: Applicant must have participated in the 2025 State Fair of Virginia competitions.

One $3,000 Wayne & Pattie Pryor Scholarship (new for 2025, 10-year scholarship)

Qualifier: Preference given to an individual showing interest or pursuing a career in trade skills and/or agricultural mechanics; must have participated in the 2025 State Fair of Virginia competitions.

One $500 Suzanne S. Youngkin Endowed Scholarship (new for 2025)

Qualifier: Recipient must be a female high school junior (rising senior); must have participated in the 2025 State Fair of Virginia competitions.

Fifteen Youth Livestock Scholarships: *REQUIRES SEPARATE YOUTH LIVESTOCK APPLICATION

Qualifier: Applicant must have participated in 2025 Youth Livestock Shows (beef cattle, swine, sheep, meat goat).

*The PDF versions of the applications should be used for reference. However, IF you are unable to get the online form to work with your personal google account (Virginia Tech emails have not always worked), we will accept the attached fillable PDFs above when you email the completed forms to scholarship@statefairva.org.

Please note the deadline of March 1 at 6:00 PM still holds and the email must include your attached essay, transcript/report card and photo. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

Applications Timeline

As of the 2025 State Fair of Virginia, the Youth Applied Scholarship Program will now open first week of February.

Timeline for the 2025 Applied Youth Scholarship Program:

Monday, February 2, 2026: Applications Open
Sunday, March 1st, 2026 (Midnight): Applications Close
Mid-April: Interviews for top applicants in Senior Livestock and General
May 15, 2026: Recipients Notified

All other applicants will be sent the press release of winners after the recipients are notified.

SPECIAL NOTICE

Scholarships earned through State Fair competitions in 2012 and earlier are held in an account at Virginia Tech. Students with scholarship earnings from 2012 and earlier will receive an annual statement from that account and will submit a similar request to the Virginia Tech Foundation for disbursal of funds. Therefore, a student who earned scholarships both before and after the 2012 State Fair will request scholarship funds from two organizations.
