We are proud to provide a $1,000 scholarship to the winner of the Virginia Association of Fairs Scholarship pageant.

Learn a little more about our 2022 recipient who will visit the 2022 State Fair of Virginia:

Torie Shifflett, representing the Franklin County Agricultural Fair, was crowned Miss Virginia Association of Fairs 2022 during the 104th conference of the Virginia Association Fairs at the historic Williamsburg Lodge in January 2022. She will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Bridgewater College. She aspires to continue her business studies and obtain her Certified Public Accountant certification in pursuit of a career as a Forensic Accountant. In recognition of her academic achievements, Torie earned Bridgewater College’s Robert Hueston and David Will Endowed Scholarships and the McKinney ACE scholarship. Also, she is a member of Philomathes and Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Societies and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. A member of Bridgewater’s Softball Team, Torie was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2021 and received a distinguished athletic award from the United States Marine Corps. She serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, United Peer-Education team, and Student Advisory Council.

Torie’s personal platform is “Lighting a Path to a Cure – Relay for Life” and she advocates and celebrates cancer survivors and caregivers. She has served as Luminaria Chairperson for her local Relay for Life in Harrisonburg/Rockingham County for the past seven years and she has raised over $35,000. She also launched the American Cancer Society’s “Neighbors Unite” – East Coast Luminaria Night. As Miss Virginia Association of Fairs, Torie will continue to foster relationships, educate, and participate in Relay for Life events across the Commonwealth.

During her year of service to the VAF, Torie will travel across Virginia serving as the official ambassador for the Virginia Association of Fairs at many fairs and festivals in our Commonwealth. She will also be the spokesperson for the Miss VAF community service program, “Read to Succeed” that, in just three years, has collected over 22,000 books. The VAF serves its members through representation, education, information, and direction which will enhance their productivity, economic viability, and administrative capability, thus enhancing the economic growth, development, and quality of life of Virginia communities.
